Went up to York, or Hull, which ever sounds the nicest , to visit John and Maureen Foster. We met John and Maureen in Oostvoorne in early may, our other set of drinking mates from Holland. ( along with Bill and Min )
On the way, in freezing weather we had a night in Oxford.
The heavy frost on the trees (it was soo cold) and the local pub where we had dinner.
We visited Christ College where Hogwarts was based and saw the great Hall.
Testing my new Nimbus 2000
broomstick at Hogwarts
Inside the college we visited the Halls of Residence for the students.
And this is the great Hall, what a life the the students in this hall lead. They still have to dress in tie and jacket for evening meals. There is also a high table only for the staff just as in the films.
Portraits of past famous students (old and older) adorn the walls.
We can just see all the Dunedin kids living here!!!!!
Lewis Carol attended Christ College and its a shame you can’t see this stained glass window better. In each portion of window there is a little panel that depicts a character out of Alice in Wonderland.
Below a bit of real student life as we know it with the sofa on the small deck.
John and Maureen’s new house in Kilham, Yorshire. How much closer can you get to your local!!!. Maureen has been known to take Johns supper plate into him at he pub!!!
Then you have the village church directly opposite. Couldn’t be better!!!!
The next day we went for a drive into York. York is a beautiful town and well worth a return visit when it is warmer. The weather was even worse as we tried to visit Castle Howard,York where Brideshead was filmed. We will have to return to visit this lovely near 300 yr old House when we can see it through the freezing fog.!!
Max and John modelling their new caps, and then they found a specialist beer shop..
