We had a lovely run up The River Seine after we had had a very bumpy couple of nights at a funny little marina in Clichy. (24 kms down stream from Paris central)
First we see the Statue de la Liberte , then pass The Eiffel Tower.
Past Pont de Alexandre 111 with The Grand & Petite Palaces behind,,,,
On past The Musee D’Orsay, and Notre Dame and through the lock into the Arsenal.
The Arsenal, our home for the next 3 weeks. We were very surprised at the clear water.
Weather is very hot, 29-32 degrees and looking to stay that way for nearly our whole stay… luckily there has been a lovely breeze everyday to help cool off. But still Lucy is going to sleep some nights with the fan on and a wet tea towel!!!
We have seen police on horses, roller skates and bikes, all fully armed with hip guns….no messing around here…And as we are very central we hear the good old French sirens going all night. Went off on cycle ride along to find a large hardware store (which was huge) at BHV and then onto the visit The Louvre, The Jardin des Tuileries, and back along the Rt bank of the Seine to the Port. Surprising easy to cycle here, even Lucy manages it quite well…Lots of cycle ways and surprisingly the French are very aware of both bikes and scooters.
Ali arrives from Australia , via family in London for 2 nights…Saturday, we take off and walk to the famous Cimetiere du Pere Lachaise, where we found the gravesites of Jim Morrison, Edith Piaf, Chopin, Oscar Wilde,…. and some really detailed sculptures attached to other family graves. Big shady trees and its 44 hectares in the centre of the city ensures that it has a lovely quiet and relaxed park-like feel.(esp on a hot day)
Then Sunday, 5 mins walk away, the twice weekly food market at The Place de la Bastille,,,The Marche Bastille, …all so good, fresh fresh food and so much of it…
Stall after stall, and even an oyster stall with oysters of different sizes and from so many different places.. so much choice,, will try with visitors later.
Ali says goodbye..
Gay Paris,,, now awaiting the influx of British, Australian and Kiwi boats/visitors that we know are going to arrive in the next week or so…
Fantastic blog guys, amazing that you can cruise past all those icons.
ReplyDeleteBest thing on a hot day? Cold Beer!
Cheers
